At a time of mounting global challenges, non-governmental organisations across Europe are uniting around a clear message: collaboration is the key to resilience. This was the central theme of the 2025 Regional NGO Consultations, where over a hundred humanitarian and development organisations — including refugee-led and community-based groups — came together to discuss the future of partnership in an increasingly complex world.
The consultations underscored that partnerships are no longer optional but essential. As humanitarian needs rise and funding gaps widen, NGOs are finding that strong local alliances are the most effective way to respond to crises, promote inclusion, and build sustainable solutions. Participants highlighted how local ownership of programmes, combined with better coordination among international, national, and community actors, leads to faster, fairer, and more lasting results.
The discussions also reflected on how the role of NGOs is evolving. Rather than acting only as implementers of external projects, NGOs are increasingly becoming co-creators of policy and strategy, advocating for local priorities and long-term capacity building. This shift is reshaping how the humanitarian and development community approaches issues such as displacement, climate adaptation, and social cohesion.
For organisations working in regional development, the message is clear: success in the coming years will depend on stronger networks, shared responsibility, and trust between partners at all levels. As one participant noted, “It’s not just about delivering aid anymore — it’s about delivering change, together.”
Looking ahead, these consultations remind us that no single organisation can face today’s challenges alone. Collaboration — grounded in mutual respect, transparency, and shared vision — is the cornerstone of progress.
